Mystery Stencil JNL was inspired by an email from type designer Ray Larabie, owner of Typodermic and Larabie Fonts. He'd sent Jeff Levine some images of European kitchenware with an unusual stencil design and asked if Jeff could identify the mystery stencil used in the labeling. This inspired Jeff to not only sketch out an alphabet based on those images, but to name the font Mystery Stencil JNL.
