The bubble-like lettering of Park Trail JNL was modeled from a photo taken in 1962 of a hand-routed sign at Matheson Hammock (a scenic park located near Biscayne Bay in Coral Gables, Florida).

Casual and playful in nature, it's also a prime example of lettering made by individuals who are (generally) not trained in typography. 
This is not necessarily a bad thing, because sometimes a project needs letter forms that are innocent and whimsical - free from the structured Romans and Sans and Scripts in order to convey a relaxed and informal, yet appealing message in their own unusual way.
