A 1915 publication entitled "Spicy Jokes" from Ottenheimer Publishers not only provided the inspiration for a digital typeface but the name as well for this quirky sans serif design.

The characters are hand lettered, with some having rounded tops which normally were flat; others having flattened sides to what would be rounded strokes.

Spicy Jokes JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.
